The Ozaukee County chapter held our third Pheasant Hunting 101 clinic this past August, at the Ozaukee County Fish & Game grounds. The program covered topics pertaining to pheasant biology, hunting tactics, hunter safety, canine care, guns, clothing, dog training, in and out-of-state hunting locations, and game processing/preparation. Special thanks to all the instructors, and the Ozaukee Fish & Game Association for the use of their facilities.
This free event, which included lunch, was attended by 35 youth and adults and provided a free ringneck membership for all attendees that were under 15 years old.
After lunch was served, we held a raffle drawing for prizes that was limited to the attendees only. The afternoon included a dog handling demonstration by Blue Grass Kennels, and then the day concluded with some hands-on trap shooting which was provided free to the attendees.
We plan on continuing offering this as an annual event as we have seen an increase in attendance and interest each year, and based on the event surveys, it proves to be an enjoyable and informative format.
Look for local advertising for our next "PH 101" to be scheduled in mid-summer 2009.
